Arthur Gadiel was born in Breslau on October 1, 1901, the only son of his father, the merchant Moritz Gadiel, and his wife Cäcilie. He had another sister Hertha. In 1903 the family moved to Berlin, where Arthur graduated from the Realschule and completed a commercial apprenticeship. In 1926 he married Johanna Fein and in 1928 founded a women's clothing ready-to-wear company at Kronenstrasse 36 in Berlin-Mitte.
