Wilhelmshaven (Low German Willemshaven) is an independent city in northwestern Germany. It is located on the northwest coast of the Jade Bay, a large bay on the North Sea. With 76,201 inhabitants, it is the second largest medium-sized city in Lower Saxony and one of the major centers in the state. Since 2006, Wilhelmshaven has been part of the Bremen/Oldenburg metropolitan region, one of a total of eleven European metropolitan regions in Germany.
