Location of the Jewish cemetery in Griesheim

Since 1897, the site of the Jewish cemetery in the Frankfurt district of Griesheim for the then Jewish community of Griesheim.

In 1780, the Jewish community received permission to build a burial ground (old cemetery) near the River Main. In 1870, the Griesheim Chemical Factory (later IG Farben AG) was able to acquire the site despite protests from the Griesheim Jewish community and convert it into a factory site. Contrary to Jewish tradition, around 40 bodies were moved from the old Jewish cemetery in Griesheim to the burial ground of the new Jewish cemetery in Heinrich-Hardt-Straße.
