How much Jewish history and culture is woven into the fabric of the Stuttgart region? In what ways can this heritage be presented and made accessible to a wide audience? And how can this stimulate social discourse?
KulturRegion Stuttgart has embarked on a two-year project exploring these questions.
One component of the project is increasing the representation of sites in the Stuttgart region on the Jewish Places online platform. In addition, numerous formats from a range of artistic disciplines aim to spark curiosity about current Jewish life in the region, to intrigue people and build bridges between Jewish and non-Jewish stakeholders, carving out space for the emergence of new, unbiased perspectives on the Stuttgart region and its identity.
KulturRegion Stuttgart began its work on Jewish Places with an Edit-a-thon, a public writing marathon, held on 30 January 2024.
The project is being conducted in cooperation with the Israelitische Religionsgemeinschaft Württembergs (IRGW, the regional Jewish community) with financial support from Verband Region Stuttgart (the political entity for the Stuttgart Region) .
KulturRegion Stuttgart is a coalition of 43 cities and municipalities, Verband Region Stuttgart, and three member associations. Since 1991, it has organized large-scale cultural projects across municipalities, thereby shaping the cultural landscape of the region.
The projects address topics with relance to the region and society at large. Contemporary art from various disciplines is showcased at unusual locations and in wide-ranging formats. Presenting them jointly encourages people to discover art throughout the region.
KulturRegion Stuttgart makes the region’s vast cultural potential visible and catalyzes new developments, creating spaces for the arts and enabling local residents to take part.
