In 1907, the Jewish community was granted permission to establish a Jewish cemetery in Neustadtgödens. Until then, the community buried its members in the cemetery in Wittmund. Cleared by the Nazis, the cemetery was transferred to the Jewish Trust Corporation in 1953. Today the cemetery is owned by the State Association of Jewish Communities of Lower Saxony.
